Psychotherapy Extern Therapy for Trauma, Anxiety, Self-Esteem, and Race-Based Stress

Do you feel emotionally shut down or disconnected from those around you? Maybe you’ve pulled away from your relationships or find yourself stuck in cycles of overthinking and impulsive habits. It might feel like you're constantly in survival mode—navigating the impact of past trauma while trying to stay afloat in a world that doesn’t always see or support you.

You might be grieving a loss, processing painful memories, or dealing with the ongoing weight of race-based or systemic stress. These experiences can make everyday life feel overwhelming and isolating. But healing is possible—and you don’t have to go through it alone.

Meet Tony Canton

I’m a psychotherapy extern working with individuals across New York City and New York State, under the supervision of Dr. Fanny Ng. I specialize in supporting people who are navigating:

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Anxiety and emotional dysregulation

  • Grief and loss

  • Race-based stress and cultural identity concerns

  • Low self-esteem and disconnection from self or others

I’m especially passionate about working with men of color, LGBTQIA+ clients, and those who’ve experienced institutional or systemic trauma. Together, we’ll create space to make sense of your experiences and build a healthier relationship with yourself and your emotions.

How I Work

My approach integrates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) to support emotional healing, resilience, and grounded coping. I work collaboratively with clients to identify survival patterns that may no longer serve them—and replace them with empowering, sustainable tools for growth.

Therapy with me is about understanding yourself deeply, gently challenging limiting beliefs, and rebuilding a secure, grounded connection to who you are.

Together, we’ll work to:

  • Recognize trauma responses and how they shape self-perception

  • Heal emotional wounds that are keeping you stuck

  • Set boundaries that honor your emotional and physical safety

  • Improve your ability to regulate and express your emotions

  • Reframe painful experiences and move forward with insight and clarity

You Deserve to Heal

There is strength in seeking support. Therapy can help you regain a sense of peace, belonging, and self-worth—no matter where you’re starting from.

If you’re ready to take the next step, I invite you to schedule a free 30-minute consultation so we can explore how I can support your healing journey.
